Anti-virus will try to protect your system from harmful installation of software that contains viruses or try to change your system settings.  If your anti-virus also has the option for "malicious link detection", then it will stop you from accessing those phishing sites. Check if your has this feature and enable it!

Even if you have been chatting with a brand, it doesn't mean that all should be automatically assumed as safe.

What you should do is ask for the legal attachment to be uploaded to Google Drive or Dropbox and a link sent to you.

These cloud systems will not host malware so its one strong line of defense to ensure that its all legit!

A VPN is not going to protect you against viruses, malware, or keyloggers. These can still infect your computer or your phone even with a VPN on.

A VPN's job is to encrypt your data so that no one can spy on it and see what you are doing online and which websites you are visiting.

Just deleting the email or unplugging your computer will not help. When you click on a phishing link and you log into that system, what you are doing is giving the hackers your username and password.

What you need to do immediately is change the password to that system. And if you use the same password on any other websites, you need to change those passwords immediately!
